What is Climate Change Now?
ClimateChangeNow (CCN) is a not-for-profit initiative and will soon become a Community Interest Company. Its purpose is to engage the public with simple, effective actions to tackle climate change.
CCN is a not-for-profit initiative based in the UK, redistributing any income net of costs for the furthering of environmental responsibility within consumer society and the support of humanitarian initiatives to aid those who have been affected by environmental disruption.
CCN has is not politically or religiously partisan and works across sectors, regions, countries and continents. The CCN comparison and switching tool is currently only available for use in the UK. However, CCN does hold a list of the leading renewable energy providers across Europe, which it makes available for European consumers and intends to provide a similar listing service for North America soon. CCN also plans to expand its full comparison and switching service for use around the world to further reduce CO2 emissions and accelerate our transition to a low-carbon society.
What Do We Do?
Climate Change Now’s current target is to switch consumers to using electricity from a renewable source. To do this Climate Change Now has developed an on-line tool that enables UK consumers to compare the price, quality of service and environmental credentials of the leading renewable electricity providers and then to switch to the one that most suites them.
Switching to renewable energy through Climate Change Now can take as little as 3 minutes and can reduce your CO2 emissions by up to 2 tons. That’s equivalent to:
- Unplugging your T.V. for 26 years.
- Or not driving your car this winter.
- Or recycling 100% of your rubbish for 2 years.
The Climate Change Now switching tool is the only, not-for-profit, independent comparison and switching tool in the world and is the largest renewable energy switching site in the world.
Who's behind Climate Change Now?
Climate Change Now was set up by Alex Lambie and Micheal Mathres in 2005. Alex and Micheal have fifteen years experience socially and environmentally sustainable trade and living and in the passed 3 years particularly have made major contributions to waking up businesses, governments and the public, to the power of consumers in tackling climate change.
The Climate Change Now switching tool has been built and designed in partnership with Fundraising Innovations and Energy Helpline. They have donated valuable time and experience. They also handle the enormous job of processing the switches and generously do this at cost.
